Dutch Australian Society ‘Abel Tasman’ Inc
International Wall of Friendship, Hobart

The International Wall of Friendship is at 188 Collins Street in the Hobart CBD
The International Wall of Friendship, in Hobart’s city, was designed to bring the multi-cultural communities of Tasmania together.
The Dutch Australian Society contributed a stone and plaque on behalf of the Dutch community. The plaque was unveiled on the 29th November 1992 by the then president of the Society, Mr George Huizing. Today Mr Huizing is the Hon Consul for the Netherlands and the patron of the Dutch Australian Society ‘Abel Tasman’ Inc.

The commemorative stone of the Netherlands is unique. It comprises several bricks excavated from the foundations of the dwelling where Abel Tasman was born in the village of Lutjegast in what is now the municipality of Grootegast in the northern province of Groningen in 1603.
